Honourable prospective Directors, Delegates and Guests,

For the tenth time the Model United Nations Initiative Karlsruhe (MUNIKa) is inviting students from across the globe to what has become the largest MUN conference in south-west Germany: KaMUN – The Black Forest Summit 2019.

Model United Nations is an incredible way to unite internationally minded, young individuals with the broadest range of backgrounds in terms of their studies, the place they call home, visions and cultures. The fruits of bringing these future leaders together are more than just the sum of their individual strengths. You will represent one country in one of our four United Nations committees to work out based on consensus or majority vote.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Executive Committee (UNHCR) for example will work towards solutions for Refugees in Distress Rescue at Sea. A topic, which would have needed a resolution before Alan Kurdi and many more had to swap their hopes for their lives.

The Economic and Social Council will take on the Sustainable Development Goals with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) in particular. It will be of no avail to consider only two SDGs as all 17 are closely linked and interconnected. Despite the challenges and different levels of development of nations the solutions must be multilateral and now.

The United Nations General Assembly First Committee is often referred to as Disarmament and International Security Committee or DISEC. In times where even developing countries entertain space programs while at the same time the failing INF treaty serves as witness for failure in disarmament talks, a discussion on Arming or preventing the very same of outer space offers room for progress.

The highest body in the United Nations framework is the Security Council. At KaMUN – The Black Forest Summit 2019 we will have two delegates represent one country together, so called double delegate. As the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will have the presidency in the Security Council in November, it will be done accordingly at this conference. The topic ahead aims at improving the situation in Yemen, a conflict often overlooked in world politics.

Now it is up to you to register. For all inquiries we are very much looking forward to assisting you.
Where will you be on November 15th to 17th?

With kindest regards,

Jonas Bruns
Secretary-General KaMUN – The Black Forest Summit 2019

Model United Nations Initiative Karlsruhe e.V.

We are a student group in Karlsruhe that was formed by people with a common interest in Model United Nations (MUN). In the beginning Munika was just a way for students to find others interested in going to MUN conferences together. Now we also do weekly sessions, social events as a student group and our own MUN conference, the KAMUN. In our sessions we introduce MUN to new people, debate current topics and prepare for conferences. We also try to raise funds to support our members going to conferences, so doing international MUN conferences becomes more accessible for everyone.

If you are new to Model United Nations or an old MUN veteran, you are welcome to join Munika. We often send delegations to conferences so beginners have a group of familiar people to go to a first conference, and we also try to send delegations to some more challenging conferences, such as NYMUN and WorldMUN. So what are you waiting for? Visit one of our sessions to find out more and get to know us!
